Chris Blackwood is a watercolour artist who is fascinated by the intricacies of the natural world, with an eye for the details that connect us to a deeper existence. Realist in style, her art captures a permanent record of the transient beauty of her subjects. Her love of world travel and photography, and her many years as a doctor, have given expression to her fascination with humanity and nature, and her watercolours express this fascination with elegant timelessness.
SERIES
Chris has produced several series studying the effects of time on both natural and built worlds, exploring identity through the changes brought on by the passing of the years.
SHAPED BY TIME
The old and the new come together as ancient stones are smoothed and beautified over time, their rough edges sanded away by the pressure and movement of a continually flowing stream.
FALLEN NATURE
Leaves lying on the ground are disconnected from their life-source but retain their detailed beauty. Chris’s Fallen Nature series captures the fragile beauty and imperfections of the cycles of life.
OPENINGS
This series of windows and doors is a departure from Chris’s usual examination of the natural world. She explores possibilities beyond barriers where transition between one space and another can limit us, or it can open a whole new world of opportunities.
